As you may have heard, Windows 10 will reach its end of life on October 14, 2025. After this date, Microsoft will stop providing free security updates, non-security updates, and technical support for this version. However, this doesn't mean your PC will stop working; it simply means you'll need to manage its security and efficiency on your own.
If you've tried upgrading to Windows 10 but encountered compatibility issues, don't worry—there are still several options available to you:
- Ignore the Deadline: While not recommended, you can choose to continue using Windows 10 without updates. However, this leaves your system vulnerable to cyber threats and viruses, and you'll lose access to technical support and updates that keep your computer running smoothly.
- Switch to Linux: If you're tech-savvy and not ready to replace your PC, consider installing the Linux operating system as an alternative to Windows 10. Be prepared for potential challenges when transitioning to a new operating system.
- Upgrade Using a Technical Loophole: If your PC failed the Windows 11 compatibility check, you might still upgrade it by making a minor registry edit and configuring it to use Secure Boot with the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). Although this workaround allows installation, it may void manufacturer support.
- Purchase Extended Security Updates (ESUs): Microsoft will offer subscription-based Extended Security Updates for Windows 10 for up to three years. The cost increases each year, and these updates don't include technical support. Educators receive a discounted rate. Keep in mind that ESUs are not intended as a long-term solution.
- Buy a New PC: If your current device is outdated, consider purchasing a new PC compatible with Windows 11. New computers generally offer improved speed, security, and productivity. Ensure you back up your data regularly to prevent data loss during the transition.
